ADAMA’s Veritas® fungicide is now registered for the control of Sclerotinia stem rot in canola, adding to its existing indications for the control or suppression of a broad spectrum of fungal diseases in other winter crops.
Sclerotinia (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) is an important fungal disease that can cause significant yield losses in canola.
ADAMA Australia’s Head of Portfolio, Dror Dagan, said Veritas provided canola growers with welcome new chemistry for the control of Sclerotinia in canola.
“The current benchmark products are combinations of actives from within the Group 3 and Group 7 fungicides,” he said.
“Veritas is a unique formulation that combines the proven performance of azoxystrobin, a Group 11 fungicide, with tebuconazole, a Group 3 fungicide.
“These two distinctly different modes of action deliver improved disease control and an important alternative for resistance management.”
Veritas contains 120g/L azoxystrobin and 200g/L tebuconazole in a suspension concentrate formulation.
Azoxystrobin inhibits spore germination and host penetration from the early stages of fungal growth and provides persistence activity against spore formation.
Tebuconazole is rapidly absorbed into leaves and is transported acropetally to provide uniform protection throughout the plant.
Australian trials have confirmed Veritas provides comparable control of leaf and stem infections as the current industry benchmarks.
“A single application of Veritas at 20 to 30% flowering provides a cost-effective solution for the control of Sclerotinia,” Dror said.
“Veritas protects the leaves and stems from infection, thereby preventing lodging and protecting yield potential.
“With registrations for the control or suppression of a wide range of foliar diseases in cereals, pulses and now canola, Veritas won’t get left in the shed.”
Veritas is applied as a single application at 1 L/ha between 20 and 50% bloom.
Surfactants or wetters are not required.
Best results will be obtained when Veritas is applied as a preventative application before significant disease pressure.
Veritas can be applied as part of a multiple spray program for the control of Sclerotinia stem rot in rotation with fungicides from alternative modes of action.
