2024 has seen important changes to the labels of two of the most effective seed treatments available to cereal and canola growers.
Systiva®, which quickly built its reputation through its exceptional efficacy on net blotches in barley, is now registered in oats as well as wheat and barley. That offers oat growers a very reliable extra treatment for red leather leaf, Septoria avenae blotch, leaf rust and stem rust. Overall, it means Systiva can now be used to control the most damaging foliar diseases in all three crops. Another valuable update to the label is that Systiva is also now registered for the suppression of stripe rust in wheat.
Regardless of the level of disease pressure, Systiva can provide a substantial return on investment through its plant health benefits that promote early crop vigour and increase potential yield.
Systiva remains the preferred fungicidal seed treatment for barley and the most efficient application timing for SDHI chemistry in the program. It is recommended to use Systiva as part of a rotation to best manage resistance. We also recommend incorporating these four simple steps to take an integrated approach to managing barley: 1. Avoid barley on barley; 2. Grow less susceptible varieties; 3. Rotate between fungicides from different MoA groups; 4. Use a foliar follow-up at a pre-planned timing.
The other major change is to the ILeVO® label. Years of trials and commercial use have shown that ILeVO provides industry-leading protection against blackleg. Now the label has been upgraded to reflect that high level of control, so growers who treat their own seed can choose ILeVO with even more confidence. By tank-mixing it with Poncho Plus, you can very cost-effectively cover all the most common threats to seedling canola.
