Voraxor has very quickly established itself as one of the most versatile herbicides on the market.
Effective as both a knockdown and pre-emergent herbicide, it is primarily active on broadleaf weeds but also works as a spike to help improve control of annual ryegrass.
Voraxor supply has vastly improved this year so growers who have been wanting to try it or use more extensively are free to apply it – and not just on cereals. Its label has now been expanded to include chickpeas, faba beans and field peas as well.
In all its registered crops, Voraxor can be tank-mixed with premium grass herbicides to extend the variety of weeds controlled and make annual ryegrass control more robust.
BASF’s recommendation is that growers make Luximax, with its unique Group 30 mode of action, the mixing partner for Voraxor in at least 30% of their wheat crops – the 30/30 plan. While resistance to Group 3, 13 and 15 herbicides isn’t yet an urgent problem, one of the goals of the 30/30 plan is to make sure they retain their effectiveness indefinitely. For growers who haven’t tried Luximax before, it will also show them that they can introduce that new mode of action without any loss of control. Trials and commercial experience have shown that Luximax consistently matches the performance of the other top grass pre-ems and, in some conditions, is even more effective. Luximax requires a minimum sowing depth of 30 mm to ensure there is no contact between the herbicide and seed, but that’s a positive too. Sowing crops at 30–50 mm gives the crop’s roots more chance to find extra subsoil moisture, avoiding false breaks and has some other plant health benefits as well.
Pre-plant spray programs are now generally much more effective than in the past. Including Voraxor and Luximax in the rotation can help further increase and sustain that effectiveness.
