New registration extends the 'Systiva effect' to wheat

Systiva® Seed Treatment Fungicide from BASF is already well established as the leading fungicidal seed treatment in barley, offering the most comprehensive protection against key soil-borne, seed-borne and foliar diseases.

Now Systiva’s recent registration for control of septoria tritici blotch in wheat makes it a valuable rotational option for wheat as well.

Trials have shown that Systiva’s all-round protection of barley can help the leading varieties reach their full yield potential. BASF characterise that as the ‘Systiva effect’ and now wheat growers can anticipate a similar impact if they choose Systiva to protect susceptible varieties against septoria.

There is low genetic resistance to septoria in most wheat varieties. With the added complication of increasing fungicide resistance in strains of the disease, extra control options are needed.

In a series of 2017 trials, Systiva consistently matched or bettered the performance of Jockey Stayer in controlling septoria – and consistently increased crop yields.

Optimal resistance management is all about using different modes of action when they will be most effective. Early septoria control is critical, so the addition of Systiva as a Group 7 option is great news.

With good agronomic practice, Systiva can be expected to control septoria up to the early stem elongation growth stage – BBCH 31–32 – and is also registered for control of bunt and suppression of rhizoctonia in wheat.

Label extensions like this one for Systiva and an even more recent one for Sharpen – (its registration to reduce seed-set by six extra weeds in cereal crops) – are just part of a steady expansion in the range of crop solutions BASF is offering Nutrien Rewards members. Look out for a major new product launch in the next few weeks, with more to follow.
