Australia’s no.1 spike herbicide, Nufarm Terrad’or.

2nd April 2024

Nufarm Terrad’or is a 700g/kg formulation of tiafenacil. Since launching in 2021, it has gained a name as the next generation of Group 14 herbicides, thanks to its performance on notoriously hard-to-kill weeds.

Nutrien Ag Solutions, Pinaroo and Loxton Branch Manager and broadacre/horticulture agronomist Mick Sparnon has been in Pinaroo for over twenty years and has seen positive results with Nufarm Terrad'or calling it a new lease of life when it comes to controlling harder to kill weeds like sow thistle and marshmallow. “Against the other group of chemicals in that line up of Group 14’s it seems to have a greater versatility and a broader spectrum on the weeds.” said Mick.

Control tough weeds and manage resistance

“When we are coming into sowing (most of our summer sprays), we keep our paddocks pretty clean but we do get odd escapes. Primarily there is a bit of fleabane, sowthistle and marshmallow. We just found some of the other products haven’t really been up to speed on the marshmallow, those harder ones. Terrad’or has been a new lease of life.” Mick said.

Terrad’or’s activity on grasses, particularly control of low to moderate glyphosate resistance in ryegrass, is one of its biggest advantages for growers. “This year with rain, traditionally we probably sprayed about a fortnight too late and we’re into that area where we captured the first leaf early ryegrass coming through. And Terrad’or just seemed to enhance once again a tank mix partner to help take out a lot of that single leaf ryegrass that can get through the mix.” said Mick. “It was actually quite pleasing, and feedback from customers were really good.

Short plant-backs and flexibility put Terrad’or ahead of the pack

Terrad’or’s flexibility sets it apart from the competition, particularly for growers of cereals and pulses, with no residual activity and one-hour plant-backs for wheat, lupins, lentils, sorghum, barley, faba beans and chickpeas, as well as a one-week plant-back for canola at a 15g/ha rate. This versatility, along with the fact that it’s an excellent mix partner with both paraquat and glyphosate, means Terrad’or is the only Group 14 spike growers need in the shed.

“Shorter plant backs is of assistance, it is of consideration. I just found that Terrad’or is quite an exciting product just with the potential on what it does with grasses.” said Mick. “I’m actually looking forward to it, coming into seeding for next year, putting the 40gram in with Paraquat.”
