Wild radish, cape weed and wire weed have been problematic for cereal growers in southern NSW, where they’ve needed a strong solution to their in-crop needs.

 The answer doesn’t need to be complex, according to Nutrien Narrandera agronomist Anthony Muhlebach.

 “Being a farmer myself I know what they expect, I like to keep it simple, and it helps keep the cost down per hectare,” he said.

 “With TALINOR™ it gets us away from these complicated brews, because the more you put into the tank the greater the chances we’ll get a call saying ‘I’ve got a mess here’.”

 TALINOR is broad spectrum broadleaf herbicide registered for in-crop application on wheat and barley, between growth stages 12 and 32. It offers control of 38 weeds including wild radish, capeweed, wireweed and fumitory, as well as bifora, volunteer pulses and brassica weed – including phenoxy resistant types.

 Best results are achieved when TALINOR is used on actively growing weeds in the two to four-leaf stage, while the addition of MCPA LVE will assist with larger or harder to control weeds.

 “I saw it for the first time in 2017, radish was the main issue, but wireweed was also quite thick in places as well as fumitory, it worked really well,” Anthony said.

 “Being a Group C and H, I don’t have to worry about plant-backs from one season to the next, it’s an easy chemical to use. The compatibility with grass weed chemicals is excellent which makes it a one-pass job.”

 The efficacy of TALINOR was again demonstrated in 2018 when one of Anthony’s clients experienced a malfunction with the spray rig.

 “There was a strip where you could really see the difference in the uncontrolled section,” Anthony said.

“The wild radish, capeweed and wireweed really got away from us. But everywhere else, TALINOR really did the job.”
