Spring Time Alert- Don't Let Parasites Steal Your Productivity

Key Points:

  • August to October rainfall & temperature expected to be above average
  • Dangerous cattle parasites will build-up rapidly in warm, moist conditions
  • Growth and health of cattle is at risk (potential impact of 8-11 kg liveweight)1
  • Effective Spring drench treatment will protect productivity of your cattle
  • Cydectin Platinum is a powerful dual-active pour-on ideal for a spring clean-up drench

With both rainfall and temperatures predicted to be above average in August to October in most cattle production regions, experts warn key cattle parasites could be a very high risk this springtime.  Parasites such as barber’s pole worm, Cooperia and cattle tick love nothing better than warm moist conditions and will rapidly build up numbers on pastures. With every parasite being able to produce thousands of eggs per day, a paddock can become heavily contaminated within 4-6 weeks. This poses a particular risk to the herd. A couple of months of increased parasite challenge and cattle may easily lose 8-11 kg of potential growth1.  While it is easy to detect obvious illness or weight loss, many producers and their advisors cannot detect this loss of potential growth and income. An effective ‘coming out of winter’ spring treatment will protect the productivity of your cattle.

Cydectin Platinum is an ideal option to protect the productivity of your herd. It is a powerful dual-active pour-on with very high efficacy (99-100%) against all key worms1.  It is a popular and convenient choice in Spring to ‘clean up’ cattle. For producers who used a different drench in late Summer to Autumn, Cydectin Platinum is the ideal next drench.  It has a short ESI of 20 days and will reduce new pasture contamination for 21-35 days2. Some producers are still relying on single active pour-ons and injections developed decades ago.

Significant research is showing that they are failing to effectively control cattle worms1. Cydectin Platinum has been proven to be highly effective against single and dual resistant worms. Productivity trials in 2020-21 proved that use of Cydectin Platinum increases productivity compared to single active mectins1.  If you used a single active for your last drench, it is essential this Spring to ‘clean up’ your cattle with a more effective product.  Don't leave anything on the table for resistant parasites with Cydectin Platinum.
