News & Updates
Justin was at a friend’s place for Sunday dinner, preparing to fly to King Island with his family early the next morning, when a text message and email arrived.
His tank had dropped below the minimum level he had set.
He raced home, grabbed a torch and went out to investigate. A foot valve connected to an old dam had jammed open, allowing water from the header tank to drain back into the dam.
That tank supplied his cattle’s drinking water.
Without the alert, Justin says he would have boarded the flight the following morning, unaware of the problem, and been away for five days while his cattle were left without water.
The notification gave him the chance to discover the fault before leaving the farm.
What happens after the last water check?
For livestock producers, Justin’s experience brings a familiar concern into focus: a tank can have water when you check it, but what happens after you leave?
A valve fault or leak can develop between visits. When tanks are spread across a property, checking them takes time and fuel. When you’re away, a problem can remain out of sight until someone returns.
Alongside the risk to livestock, there’s the worry of being too far away to respond, and knowing an earlier warning could have made a difference.
Gallagher’s Tank Level Monitor gives you greater visibility of your stored water, helping you identify changes that need attention.
A warning that helps you act
The Tank Level Monitor allows you to view your monitored tank levels in one place through an app on your phone.
Customisable high-level, low-level and rate-of-change alerts help flag changes that warrant investigation. A low-level alert, like the one Justin received, can prompt a check before a water supply issue goes unnoticed for longer.
The monitor lets you know when to investigate a faulty valve or pump, and arrange a response. That visibility matters whether you’re working elsewhere on the property, sitting down to dinner or preparing to leave for a family holiday.
Keeping an eye on remote tanks
The Gallagher Tank Level Monitor selects its network based on location and works wherever you put it, even in the most remote locations.
The unit is designed for straightforward DIY installation, with waterproof, fully encapsulated and sealed construction for demanding farm environments.
Each monitor requires an active subscription. Scheduled reporting intervals vary by network, while configured alerts provide additional notification when thresholds are crossed.
For Justin, the value became clear on a Sunday evening. A message on his phone led him to a problem he otherwise expected would have gone unnoticed until he was away.
For other producers, his experience raises a practical question: if your tank level dropped tonight, how soon would you know?
