Broad Sweep – Act Early on Broadleaf Weeds

01/05/2026

As we move into autumn, many broadleaf weeds like capeweed and thistles begin to actively grow. Generally, in grass pastures and lawns, a good time to control these is once your grass is established, but before the weeds get too big. Leaving the weeds until spring will make them much harder and more expensive to control, often requiring higher rates or multiple applications.

Broad Sweep is a selective broadleaf herbicide that targets a wide range of weeds while leaving established grasses unaffected, making it a practical and effective tool across both lawns and grass pastures.

Lawns & Turf

Broad Sweep is well suited for use in lawns and turf areas, helping control common broadleaf weeds without damaging your grass.

⚠️ Important: Broad Sweep is not safe for Buffalo lawns. Always check your lawn type before application.

Applying to weeds early, when they are young and actively growing, can deliver great results. Controlling weeds at this stage reduces competition and allows your lawn to thicken and establish more evenly, improving overall appearance and resilience. Acting now also reduces the need for repeat sprays later in the season.

Established Grass Pastures

In established grass pastures, early intervention is key to maintaining productivity and pasture quality.

Broadleaf weeds compete with grasses for nutrients, moisture and light, reducing the overall performance of your pasture. By spraying weeds when they are young, Broad Sweep allows grasses to make better use of available resources, improving growth and ground cover.

⚠️ Important: Broad Sweep can harm or kill clover. In Pastures, only use on established grass pastures as directed by the label.

If weeds that have germinated in the Autumn are left until spring, they are typically larger, more established and harder to control, leading to:

  • Greater impact on pasture production
  • Increased chemical costs
  • Reduced herbicide effectiveness

Taking action in autumn helps set your pasture up for stronger performance through the season ahead.

The message is simple: spray early while weeds are young and actively growing.

Broad Sweep allows you to target broadleaf weeds effectively while protecting your grass base—helping you save time, reduce costs, and maintain cleaner lawns and more productive pastures.
